Cook Islands News: PM says no to Scientology

Tuesday 10: Prime minister Jim Marurai confirmed yesterday that government will not give official endorsement to the controversial church of Scientology to operate its programmes in the Cook Islands.
Marurai met with Australian Scientology representative Mathew Andrews yesterday to convey the decision.
Andrews says the church is not actually looking for an official decision either way because it is not required.
“We are not looking to establish a church here,” he says.
The decision was something that escalated out of his courtesy call to the prime minister.
Andrews says the decision by the RAC was based on a lack of information about the writings of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.
